About Texas Parks & Wildlife Department

Since our inception in 1895 as the Fish and Oyster Commission, and with the addition of the Game Department in 1907, we have grown into the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). Our mission is to manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and putdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. TPWD staff work at nearly 200 locations throughout the Lone Star State. Nearly all positions require a high school diploma/GED, and many require a BA/BS. We are known for recruiting and retaining employees whose dedication, courage and willingness to "go the extra mile" bring quality and passion to all areas of the agency.

Our major professional natural resource jobs include Park Ranger, Game Warden, wildlife biologist, and marine and fresh water biologist. Technical resource utilization areas include Fish and Wildlife Technician, and Natural Resource Specialist. We also employ the full range of supporting professional job classifications, to include Information Technology, Communications, Human Resources, Project Management, Accountant, and Legal Services. Administrative support positions include administrative assistant, accounting technician and many more associated job classifications.
