About National Domestic Violence Hotline

The National Domestic Violence Hotline is the only national toll-free resource of its kind serving domestic violence survivors, friends, family, co-workers, and abusers. This year, over 250,000 people will call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). At least 150,000 will be making their first call for help. For many, it will be a life-saving call not only for them, but also for their children. The Hotline is the vital link to safety, answering calls personally, helping people see options for next steps and connecting them to immediate sources of help. For all, it will be the beginning of their journey to freedom, self-sufficiency and a new life.

A unique feature of the Hotline is that a caller can make one phone call and be connected anywhere in the nation and stay on the line until a safe haven is found. The Hotline utilizes a Language Line with access to serve callers in over 170 languages. Since it's creation in 1996, nearly 2.5 million people have been helped utilizing the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
